What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)?

India’s flagship housing scheme providing affordable homes to eligible families across rural and urban areas.

India’s Largest Housing Scheme

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is the Government of India’s ambitious mission to provide “Housing for All” by ensuring that every eligible Indian family has access to a pucca (permanent) house. The scheme operates under two separate components: PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G) for rural beneficiaries and PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) for urban and semi-urban beneficiaries.

Aadhaar is mandatory for PMAY — both for beneficiary identification and for receiving housing assistance funds via Direct Benefit Transfer. You must have your Aadhaar linked and verified to be included in the beneficiary list and receive installment payments.

EWS

Economically Weaker Section

Annual household income up to ₹3 lakh. Eligible for subsidy up to ₹2.67 lakh under CLSS component of PMAY-U.

LIG

Low Income Group

Annual household income between ₹3–6 lakh. Eligible for credit-linked subsidy on housing loans under PMAY-Urban.

MIG

Middle Income Group

Annual household income between ₹6–18 lakh (MIG-I and MIG-II). Eligible for reduced interest rate on home loans.

Rural

PMAY-Gramin (PMAYG)

BPL and Socially excluded households in rural areas. Financial assistance of ₹1.2–1.3 lakh for house construction.

Important Information for PMAY Beneficiaries

Essential facts to know about your PMAY Aadhaar-linked status and installment payments.

PMAY-G Installment Payment Schedule

Under PMAY-Gramin, the total financial assistance of ₹1.2 lakh (plains) or ₹1.3 lakh (hilly/NE states) is released in 3 installments based on construction progress:

1st Installment: Released after beneficiary selection and foundation completion (₹40,000–₹43,000)
2nd Installment: Released after lintel level completion (₹40,000–₹43,000)
3rd Installment: Released after roof completion (₹40,000–₹43,000)

All installments are transferred directly to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Construction progress is verified through geotagged photographs uploaded on the AwaasSoft portal.

Geo-tagging Requirement for Installment Release

PMAY-G requires geotagged photographs of your house at each stage of construction to be uploaded on the official portal by the local Gram Panchayat or Block Development Officer (BDO). If photographs are not uploaded, your next installment may be delayed. Contact your Gram Panchayat to ensure timely photo uploads.

Your Name Not Showing in PMAY List?

If you believe you are eligible but your name does not appear, contact your Gram Panchayat (rural) or Urban Local Body (urban), or call the PMAY helpline at 1800-11-6446. PMAY beneficiaries are selected from the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data and your name must be in the priority list.

PMAY-Gramin beneficiaries are selected from the SECC (Socio-Economic Caste Census) data and priority lists prepared by Gram Panchayats. Your name may not appear if: (1) you were not surveyed in SECC 2011, (2) your name was not included in the priority list, (3) you exceed the income/asset eligibility criteria, or (4) there is a data mismatch with your Aadhaar. Contact your Gram Panchayat or the PMAY helpline at 1800-11-6446 for resolution.
Yes. Aadhaar is mandatory for PMAY — both PMAY-Gramin and PMAY-Urban. It is used for beneficiary identification, deduplication (ensuring one house per family), and for transferring installment payments via Direct Benefit Transfer to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
Common reasons for installment delays: (1) Geotagged construction photos not uploaded by Gram Panchayat/BDO — contact them to upload, (2) Your Aadhaar is not seeded with any bank account — visit your bank to activate NPCI seeding, (3) There is a mismatch between your Aadhaar name and bank account name — get it corrected at your bank. Call the PMAY helpline at 1800-11-6446 for specific guidance.
The PMAY-Gramin portal (pmayg.nic.in) primarily supports status search by Aadhaar number, registration number, or by name + state/district. Some state-level portals may allow mobile number-based searches. For PMAY-Urban, use pmaymis.gov.in and search by Aadhaar number or assessment ID.
