Bandhkam Kamgar Yojana 2026: Registration, Benefits & Online Apply in Maharashtra

A worker spends twelve years on Pune construction sites, falls from scaffolding, and files a claim. It comes back rejected — his board registration lapsed four years ago and nobody told him. That single lapse is the most expensive mistake in this scheme, and it is entirely avoidable. This article explains what the kamgar yojana for Maharashtra’s construction workers actually pays for, who qualifies, and how to register or renew online without losing a claim to paperwork.

First, clear up the names. Whether you search for bandhkam kamgar yojna, badhkam kamgar, bhankam kamgar, or maharashtra bandh kamgar yojana, you are looking for the same body: the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. One scheme, one portal, many spellings.

What Is the Bandhkam Kamgar Yojana?

The scheme is not a handout. A cess of 1% of construction cost — land value excluded — is collected from qualifying building projects across the state. That money goes into a welfare fund, and the fund is spent on the workers who built those projects: masons, helpers, bar-benders, electricians, plumbers, painters, carpenters, tile layers, scaffolders.

The board was constituted under the Labour Department and now operates under the Social Security Code, 2020, which replaced the older BOCW Act, 1996. In practice, nothing about your day-to-day dealings changes: you register with the board, keep the registration alive, and claim benefits against it.

Benefits You Can Claim

The board revises benefit rates periodically through government resolutions, so treat the amounts below as indicative and confirm the current figures on the portal before filing anything.

Death and Disability Assistance

  • Natural death: a lump sum to the nominated heir, generally conditional on a minimum number of years of registration.
  • Accidental death at a construction site: a higher lump sum, but the file needs a police FIR, panchnama, death certificate, and heir certificate. Missing any one of these stalls the claim.
  • Permanent disability: a lump sum against a district civil surgeon’s certificate. Workers with even a single valid registration have successfully claimed this, which is why letting registration lapse makes no sense.

Education Support for Your First Two Children

  • Cash awards on passing Class 9 and Class 11, claimable within a year of the marksheet date.
  • Substantial annual tuition support for medical and engineering degrees. Diploma and postgraduate courses are not covered.
  • Reimbursement for sainik school tuition, and a smaller one-time amount for government-recognised sainik schools.
  • A limited number of overseas master’s and PhD slots each year, with tuition paid directly to the university.
  • Classes 1 to 8 receive a basic kit in kind, not cash.

Maternity Support and Pension

Registered women workers can claim a one-time maternity amount for a normal or caesarean delivery. Separately, workers who cross 60 receive an annual pension that scales with years of registration — the longer you stayed registered, the higher the annual figure.

Who Is Eligible for the Maharashtra Kamgar Yojana?

Three conditions decide your eligibility:

  • Age: 18 to 60 at the time of registration.
  • Work history: at least 90 days of construction work in the preceding 12 months, certified by your employer or contractor.
  • Residence: permanent residency in Maharashtra.

Two dates matter more than anything else on this page. Registration and renewal fees have been waived for the current period, and the board has extended the window for registration, renewal, and claim appointments. Both are time-bound concessions, not permanent rules — check the portal for the live cut-off, because when the window closes, claims get far harder to file.

How to Register Online: Step-by-Step

Data entry at taluka facilitation centres has been discontinued. Registration, renewal, and claims now run entirely online.

  1. Open mahabocw.in and go to the Workers tab. Select Worker Registration.
  2. Read the eligibility and document list on that page before touching the form. It saves a rejected upload later.
  3. Enter your date of birth, tick the eligibility boxes, and give your Aadhaar number plus the mobile number linked to that Aadhaar. Click Proceed to Form.
  4. Fill in personal and employment details — name, address, type of construction work, and days worked in the last 12 months. Keep these consistent with your documents.
  5. Upload scanned documents in the prescribed format and size.
  6. Submit and book a verification appointment at your nearest board office. Online submission alone does not complete registration.
  7. Save your acknowledgement number. It is your only proof if the appointment queue runs past the deadline.

Two things trip people up here. The first is the OTP. If the mobile number you type is not linked to your Aadhaar, the OTP simply never arrives — no error, no explanation. Get the linkage updated at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or through the UIDAI portal before you start, and never enter someone else’s number to get past the screen; the verification officer will catch the mismatch. The second is the session timeout. Scan and size your documents before opening the form, and type your Aadhaar number slowly. A portal that logs you out mid-upload means starting over.

Documents Required

Keep these ready, as they are commonly required at both the online and verification stages:

  • Proof of age — birth certificate, school leaving certificate, or Aadhaar.
  • 90-day work certificate from your employer or contractor, stating the number of days and the nature of the work.
  • Maharashtra residence proof — ration card, domicile certificate, or voter list entry.
  • Identity proof, with Aadhaar commonly accepted.
  • Passport-sized photographs.
  • Bank passbook copy for an account in your own name.

Death and disability claims need additional papers: death certificate, heir certificate, FIR and panchnama for accidents, or a civil surgeon’s disability certificate.

Common Mistakes That Get Claims Rejected

  • A vague 90-day certificate. “Worked on site” is not enough. It needs days worked and the type of construction work, on letterhead where possible.
  • Filing outside the claim window. Death, disability, and education claims generally must be filed within a year of the event. Late files are rejected outright.
  • Letting registration lapse. An expired registration disqualifies you from everything until it is renewed. This is the single most common reason families lose a claim they were entitled to.
  • Mismatched details. Your name, date of birth, and Aadhaar number must read identically across every document. One spelling variant can hold up verification for weeks.
  • Old application formats. The board has changed formats for some claim types in recent years. Download the current form from the portal rather than reusing a photocopy passed around the site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Is Bandhkam Kamgar Yojana registration free?

Fees for registration and renewal have been waived for the current period. This is a time-bound waiver, so confirm the status on mahabocw.in before you budget for it.

Q2: I worked 70 days on site last year. Can I register?

Not yet. The minimum is 90 days in the preceding 12 months. Finish the remaining days, get a fresh certificate, then apply.

Q3: Can my family claim benefits if I am registered?

Yes. Education support covers your first two children, death benefits go to legal heirs, and registered women workers can claim maternity assistance.

Q4: How much pension will I get after 60?

The annual pension rises with the number of years you stayed registered. The exact slabs are revised periodically — check the portal for current figures.

Q5: I lost my registration ID. How do I check my status?

Log in to mahabocw.in with your registered mobile number and Aadhaar number. Application, payment, and benefit details sit under the Worker Login section.

Q6: I work in Mumbai but my native place is in another state. Am I eligible?

Registration requires Maharashtra permanent residency. A Maharashtra voter entry, ration card, or domicile certificate usually settles the question.

Do not wait for the confirmation SMS before you act. Verification appointments can take weeks to come through, and a slot that falls after the deadline puts you at the back of a much slower queue. Keep the acknowledgement number from your online submission, screenshot the appointment page, and renew every year on the same date you first registered — renewal takes minutes when your registration is active and becomes a fight when it is not. For current rates, deadlines, and document formats, the official MahaBOCW portal is the only source worth trusting.
