Your Shramshree application has been sitting at “Under Process” for three weeks. Or your e-Shram registration went through, but the OTP for your status check never arrives because your mobile number was never linked to Aadhaar. Meanwhile, a bank or telecom deadline is creeping closer, and you need proof of registration in hand. This guide walks through the actual status-check process for each major labour card scheme in West Bengal — Shramshree, e-Shram, and MGNREGA — including the verification hurdles that stall most applications, and what to do when the portal itself becomes the obstacle.

First, Identify Which Labour Card You Actually Hold

West Bengal has no single “labour card.” Four separate schemes use that label in everyday conversation, and each runs on a different portal with a different login method. Searching on the wrong site wastes time and often leads people to unofficial look-alike pages.

  • Shramshree / Parijayi Shramik (Migrant Worker) Card — a state Labour Department scheme for workers who returned to West Bengal after employment in other states. Registration and status checks run through the Karmasathi portal or the official Shramshree app.
  • e-Shram Card — a central registration for unorganised sector workers. It generates a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), which acts as a portable labour identity across states.
  • MGNREGA Job Card — for rural households registered under the rural employment guarantee programme. Not a labour card in the strict sense, but it functions as a work entitlement document.
  • BOCW Card — for construction workers registered with the West Bengal Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

If you applied through a labour office and received an MWIN, you are on Shramshree. If you registered at a CSC with a bank passbook, you are on e-Shram. The sections below follow that split.

DBT Status Check with Mobile Number (2026 Guide)

Checking Shramshree Status via the Karmasathi Portal or App

The Shramshree scheme (formally the Parijayi Shramik Punarbasan Prakalpa) verifies identity through OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile — a standard e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) step where your identity is confirmed digitally rather than through paper submission.

  1. Open the official Karmasathi portal maintained by the West Bengal Labour Department. Confirm the URL carefully; several private sites mimic the layout.
  2. Locate the beneficiary login section on the homepage.
  3. Select Beneficiary as your login type. You may also see options for officials or block-level users — those are not for you.
  4. Enter the mobile number you used at registration. This must be the number linked to your Aadhaar.
  5. Request the OTP and enter it within the validity window. OTPs typically expire in a few minutes.
  6. After login, your dashboard opens. Look for Track Status, Application Status, or Print Card in the menu.
  7. The status screen shows whether your application is pending, approved, or flagged for correction.

The same login flow exists inside the official Shramshree mobile app. Update the app before using it — older builds sometimes fail during OTP verification, and the error message gives no hint that the version is the problem.

Two pitfalls worth knowing. First, if your Aadhaar-linked mobile is different from the number you registered with, the OTP will go to the Aadhaar-linked number, not the one you typed. Second, the portal session times out quickly during peak hours. If the page hangs after you enter the OTP, do not refresh repeatedly — that can lock the session and force a cooldown before you can retry.

Once approved, you receive an MWIN (Migrant Worker Identification Number). Treat it as permanent, but note that Shramshree registration generally requires periodic renewal. A lapsed renewal can pause benefits even though the MWIN remains valid.

What Changes in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh

Nothing changes online. The same portal, the same EID/URN, the same timestamp. What differs is the physical side: how many Aadhaar Seva Kendras operate in your district, how quickly local centres respond, and how reliably post reaches your address.

Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have Aadhaar Seva Kendras in most major cities, and these generally process enrolments and biometric updates faster than smaller franchised centres. Uttar Pradesh is more uneven — Noida and Lucknow have several options, while rural districts may have one centre covering a wide area, with appointment slots that fill days in advance. If you need a biometric update and the nearest centre is overloaded, it is worth checking whether a Seva Kendra in a nearby city has earlier availability.

Checking e-Shram Status by Aadhaar Number

e-Shram differs from state schemes in one important way: the UAN is often generated immediately upon successful registration, so there is no long approval queue. What people usually need is confirmation of details or a downloadable card.

  1. Go to the official e-Shram portal at eshram.gov.in.
  2. Choose the existing-user login option.
  3. Log in with either your registered mobile number or your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
  4. Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  5. Your dashboard displays the UAN, registration status, and any linked schemes. The card download sits on this same screen.

If your mobile is not linked to Aadhaar, OTP verification will fail no matter how many times you retry. A Common Service Centre visit with your Aadhaar and bank passbook is the usual workaround, using biometric authentication instead. Note that CSC operators are generally not permitted to charge for e-Shram registration itself — any demand for payment is a red flag.

Checking MGNREGA Job Card and Wage Status in West Bengal

MGNREGA runs on the national NREGA portal, not a state system, which surprises many first-time users.

For job card and employment register details:

  1. Visit nrega.nic.in.
  2. Open the Reports section.
  3. Select State, then choose West Bengal.
  4. Pick R1. Job Card/Employment Register.
  5. Drill down through your District, Block, and Panchayat, then search by name or job card number.

For wage payment history:

  1. Go to Reports → Financial Reports.
  2. Select Statement of Payment to Workers.
  3. Choose West Bengal, then your District, Block, and Panchayat.
  4. Enter your job card number to see credited payments.

Aadhaar seeding with your job card matters here. Wages routed through the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS) can stall or be held if your Aadhaar is not linked to the correct bank account.

Ration Card Status: How to Check Rice Card Status with Aadhaar Number in AP & Telangana

Documents You Will Typically Need

Exact requirements vary by scheme, but these are commonly required across all four:

  • Aadhaar card — the primary identity document. Name, date of birth, and address on your application must match Aadhaar exactly, including spelling.
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number — needed for every OTP-based login and status check.
  • Bank account details — for e-Shram, Shramshree, and MGNREGA payments, your account should be Aadhaar-seeded for Direct Benefit Transfer.
  • West Bengal address proof — ration card or voter ID is commonly accepted for state schemes.
  • Migration or employment proof — Shramshree verification may ask for evidence of out-of-state work, such as a return ticket or employer certificate.

Why Your Status Shows “Pending” or “Under Process”

Most stalled applications trace back to one of four issues.

Aadhaar detail mismatch. A single letter difference in your name, or an address that does not match, can push the application into manual verification. This is the most common cause of long delays.

Mobile number not linked to Aadhaar. OTP verification simply cannot complete. You would need to update your mobile number at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra first, which is a separate process with its own appointment.

Biometric or e-KYC failure. Fingerprint authentication fails more often than people expect, particularly with worn ridges or dry skin. Schemes requiring biometrics will route you to a designated centre for manual verification.

Document quality. Blurry scans, cropped Aadhaar PDFs, or files exceeding the size limit get applications returned without a clear explanation.

Documents Required for Enrolment and Updates

Carrying the right papers the first time saves a second trip, and in districts with limited centre availability, a second trip can mean a second month.

For a new enrolment, you will commonly need Proof of Identity (passport, voter ID, PAN card), Proof of Address (ration card, bank passbook, electricity bill), and Proof of Date of Birth (birth certificate or SSLC certificate). The accepted document list is revised from time to time, so confirm the current version on the official UIDAI portal before you go.

For updates, bring the original document supporting the change. Address updates can often be done online through SSUP with a scanned copy of an acceptable Proof of Address document and a registered mobile number for OTP. Name and date-of-birth changes typically require a visit. Mobile number updates always require an in-person visit, because biometric verification is mandatory and cannot be completed online.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I check my West Bengal labour card status by mobile number?

Yes, for most schemes. Shramshree and e-Shram both use mobile number plus OTP login. The number must be the one you registered with and ideally linked to your Aadhaar.

What if my Aadhaar is not linked to my mobile number?

A CSC or designated government office visit is the standard alternative, where biometric authentication replaces OTP. Carry your Aadhaar and bank passbook.

How do I download my WB labour card once approved?

Shramshree shows a Print Card or Download option on your dashboard after login. e-Shram lets you download the UAN card from the portal. MGNREGA job card details can be printed from the NREGA reports section.

What should I do if my status stays “under process” for weeks?

Log in and check for any error notification on the dashboard first. If nothing changes, call the relevant helpline — 14434 for e-Shram, or the West Bengal Labour Helpline at 1800-103-0009 for state scheme issues.

Is there a fee to check labour card status?

No. Status checks on official government portals are free. Any website or agent charging for this is not legitimate.

Can I check Aadhaar card status separately?

Yes. Aadhaar enrolment and update status is checked on the UIDAI portal (uidai.gov.in) or through the mAadhaar app, using your Enrolment ID (EID) or Update Request Number (URN). Those credentials are unrelated to your labour card.

Before You Log Out

Give a pending application at least one full working week after submission before re-checking — status updates on state portals are not real-time, and repeated logins during peak hours only increase the chance of a session timeout. If the status has not moved after two weeks, or if it flips to “rejected” without a stated reason, that is the point to escalate: call the helpline with your application number and Aadhaar number ready, or visit your local labour office or panchayat. Portal errors are usually fixable; silence is what costs time.
